Problem Statement/ Definition

Macpac required a more uniform and reliable method to regulate third-party contractor access across its retail network. Existing sign-in processes relied on paper registers or ad hoc store-level systems, which provided no central oversight and posed WHS compliance and insurance risks. Contractors were entering stores without proof of induction, valid credentials or clear authorisation, exposing the business to uncontrolled access and audit failure.

Proposed Solution and Architecture

Unifii implemented its Site Access Sign-in/Sign-out Module, embedded within the Unifii Operations Cloud and accessible via mobile, tablet or desktop. Contractors are permitted access only after passing induction, credential validation and role-specific pre-approval through the Unifii platform. Upon arrival, they sign in using a QR code, mobile app or kiosk – verifying identity, access authority and store-specific rules. The system is SaaS-based, horizontally scalable and supports non-enterprise users through tokenised, secure access without enterprise directory dependencies. All access events are time-stamped, location-specific, and recorded in a central log with real-time visibility and automated notifications to store managers. Data is encrypted and stored securely in compliance with privacy and regulatory standards, while reports and exception flags are available to HSE and facilities teams through Unifii’s advanced reporting dashboards.

Outcomes

The project delivered full control of contractor access across all Macpac stores, ensuring no entry was permitted without verified approval. Sign-in compliance improved significantly within 30 days of go-live. The average sign-in time was reduced to under 60 seconds with the system allowing store managers to receive instant notifications of each entry and exit if required. Exceptions for unauthorised access dropped markedly and Macpac was able to generate consolidated reports on contractor attendance, time-on-site and induction compliance across the network. Audit time for access logs was reduced from hours per site to less than five minutes centrally.
